The Department of Science and Technology - Advanced Science and Technology Institute (DOST-ASTI) and Superteam Philippines are set to formalize an innovative partnership to boost blockchain technology and Web3 initiatives across the Philippines.

A Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing ceremony will formalize the partnership on July 19, 2024, at Novotel Manila Araneta City, Quezon City, during ASTICon, which celebrates DOST-ASTI's 37 years of innovation. This collaboration aims to promote Science, Technology, and Innovation through training, workshops, and capability building, supporting advanced research and development in blockchain technology. The partnership will facilitate knowledge transfer to various stakeholders, enhancing technological innovation and creating new opportunities in the Philippine tech sector, fostering growth and advancement in blockchain and beyond.

In collaboration with Superteam Philippines, DOST-ASTI will engage in educational activities and explore the potential of blockchain and Web3 in local industries. Additionally, DOST-ASTI will offer internships to provide hands-on experience for students interested in blockchain research. Superteam Philippines will help organize joint activities such as workshops, training, bootcamps, and hackathons, connect DOST-ASTI with partner institutions, provide grants for promising Web3 projects, and recommend students for internships at DOST-ASTI.

In addition, the partnership will aid DOST-ASTI's DataProtect Project, which focuses on utilizing blockchain for privacy protection. Central to this project is the development of a decentralized application known as SIERRA.

Dr. Franz A. De Leon, Director of DOST-ASTI, said, "This partnership will help us create new opportunities in blockchain technology and Web3 education. By working with Superteam Philippines, we can foster innovation and develop skilled professionals in this important field."
Mr. Emerson Fonseca, Country Lead  of Superteam Philippines, added, “Our partnership with DOST-ASTI represents a significant leap for blockchain education in the Philippines. Together, we will enhance government processes and create opportunities for Filipino talent in the Web3 space. We eagerly anticipate the positive impact this partnership will have on our country’s technological field and creation of more blockchain projects with the government.”

This collaboration is expected to yield substantial benefits, influencing educational institutions, government bodies, and private sector organizations throughout the Philippines. Among the beneficiaries are the Polytechnic University of the Philippines and other universities partnered with DOST-ASTI.
