The Metaverse Filipino Worker (MFW) Caravan Press Conference, hosted by YGG Pilipinas, gathered leaders, influencers, and innovators in the Web3 space to explore how digital technologies are transforming employment and empowering Filipino communities. 

Held in celebration of Women’s Month, the event spotlighted the intersections of technology, education, and economic inclusion, with a strong focus on the growing role of Filipino mothers and digital workers in the metaverse.

Moms in the Metaverse: Redefining Work-Life Balance

In a heartfelt panel moderated by Jenna Ilao, Co-lead of Metaversity, speakers Julie Soriano (Mommy Influencer and Events Manager, YGG Pilipinas) and April Agregado (Mompreneur and Manager of SeviLovesArt) shared their personal journeys in Web3.

Julie Soriano, featured in the MFW short film, described how gaming with her daughter led to a career in event management within YGG Pilipinas. “As an MFW, I can work flexible hours, help my children, and avoid the stress of daily commutes,” she shared.

April Agregado, who manages the digital presence of her son, 11-year-old NFT artist SeviLovesArt, emphasized the transformative power of Web3. “We went from skeptics to believers. It allowed us to turn Sevi’s art into a global voice,” she said.

Both women highlighted the benefits of financial empowerment, flexible schedules, and the critical role of mentorship and community in overcoming the steep learning curve of Web3.

Learn and Earn Anywhere: Unlocking Digital Careers

In a second panel moderated by BitPinas Founder Mike Mislos, the focus turned to digital employment. Speakers included Jude Turcuato (First VP, PLDT), Renz Chong (Co-Founder, Sovrun and G!G), and Bianca Cruz (Co-lead, Metaversity).

Renz Chong introduced G!G, a micro-tasking platform aimed at providing flexible income for Filipinos. “With Web3, we can give more people access to meaningful work while they learn,” he said.

Turcuato emphasized the role of infrastructure, citing PLDT’s efforts to expand digital access. “Digital jobs must reach everyone, not just those in major cities,” he stated.

Bianca Cruz highlighted how Metaversity’s structured learning paths prepare Filipinos for real job opportunities. “Education should lead directly to employment. We’re creating clear pathways for that,” she explained.

Infrastructure for Access and Inclusion: Building the Web3 Economy

A third panel, moderated by Manila Bulletin columnist Robert ‘Bob’ Reyes, explored the infrastructure needed for inclusive digital work. Panelists included John Paul Abanilla (Converge), Jen Bilango (Coins.ph), and JB (NFT X-Street).

Abanilla stressed the importance of high-speed internet. “Reliable connectivity is foundational to the metaverse economy,” he said.

Bilango introduced PHPC, the country’s first fully regulated stablecoin, as a way to streamline crypto payments for digital workers. “Work is now global, and so must financial access be,” she explained.

JB from NFT X-Street emphasized community-driven education to onboard more Filipinos into Web3. “It’s not just about access. It’s about guidance,” he noted.

Shaping the Future of Work in the Philippines

The MFW Caravan made it clear: Web3 is reshaping what work looks like in the Philippines. From moms managing NFT art portfolios to gig workers completing digital quests, the future of employment is increasingly decentralized, inclusive, and accessible.

As digital platforms like G!G, Metaversity, and Coins.ph expand, and as infrastructure providers like PLDT and Converge push connectivity further, Filipino workers—regardless of gender, location, or background—are finding new ways to thrive in the metaverse.

“The Metaverse is no longer a concept—it’s an opportunity,” concluded Abanilla. “And we must ensure every Filipino is equipped to take part.”
