Heads up, crypto fam! On Monday, June 3, 2024, from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM, Klaytn Foundation will be hosting the Kaia Media Launch at the Coins Office in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, in partnership with Bitskwela and Coins.ph. Watch as the teams behind top South Korean tech giants launch Kaia, a high-performance, open-source, permissionless, public blockchain platform designed to make the Web3 experience easier and more intuitive for users, builders, investors, enterprises, and everyone in-between.

Kaia’s goal is to make it possible for everyone to enjoy the benefits of blockchain technology and connect, create, collaborate, and contribute to the ecosystem as effortlessly as they do in Web2. It was created as a result of the strategic merger of two of Asia’s most influential blockchain platforms: Klaytn, developed by leading South Korean mobile conglomerate Kakao, and Finschia, the blockchain venture initiated by the top superapp LINE. 

In fact, the name “Kaia” originates from a combination of “Klaytn” and “Finschia,” and also comes from “Kai,” the Greek word for “and,” which symbolizes the interconnectedness of Web3. With the help of its Web2 and Web3 partners, Kaia hopes to be the No.1 blockchain platform in Asia.

Upon launch, Kaia will have over 420 different apps integrated with its ecosystem, a market capitalization of around $940 million, and a potential user base of over 250 million across Asia. Next steps include setting up a foundation in Abu Dhabi, more strategic partnerships, and becoming a global blockchain leader with staff based in Korea, Singapore, Japan, and beyond.

Attendees can look forward to the chance to meet and greet several brilliant industry leaders at the event. One is Dr. Sangmin Seo, the representative director of the non-profit Klaytn Foundation, and his team. Prior to joining, Dr. Seo was Chief Klaytn Officer (CKO) at Krust Universe where he led the development and operation of the Klaytn blockchain. He also worked as CTO at GroundX, a blockchain subsidiary of the leading South Korean mobile platform, Kakao, and as an assistant computer scientist at Argonne National Laboratory.

Another of the big names to look out for is Benjamin Kim (Benji), a global business lead for DOSI and a core member of the Finschia Foundation. DOSI is LINE NEXT’s all-in-one digital commerce platform based on Kaia with over 5,500,000 active NFT holders and partnerships with the top brands in Korea, Japan, and the rest of Asia. It is serviced by LINE NEXT Inc., a LY Corporation Group company dedicated to developing and expanding the Web3 ecosystem. Prior to joining LINE NEXT, Benji has worked in top companies such as Apple, Toshiba and HSBC. He's a web3 enthusiast who dabbles in everything from DeFi and RWA to gaming, NFT and beyond.

Also present is 3KDS Global Business Lead, Brian Oh. 3KDS is a South Korean content platform and gaming studio for gaming, webtoons, social media, and other media types. Prior to joining 3KDS, Brian served as a Project Manager in a publishing company, where he successfully published around 12 games. He also played a key role in developing Web3 projects like Princess Maker for Klaytn and EOS Blasterz.

Why Kaia Chose the Philippines for Its Launch

Kaia picked the Philippines as the venue for its media launch for several reasons. For one, the Philippines is blessed with a tech-savvy population with a growing interest in all things crypto, blockchain, and Web3. The government has also been quite open to blockchain education and innovation. Local government units have already held many webinars and seminars in cooperation with the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Most of all, the Philippines has a very active blockchain community with many startups and organizations passionate about emerging technology. 

In preparation for its grand launch, Klaytn has been gradually making a stir in the local scene. It partnered with one of the top local crypto exchanges, Coins.ph, to offer users nationwide the chance to purchase and trade $KLAY tokens. Klaytn also participated in YGG’s road trip as well as other prominent community events. With the support of the community, it hopes for a solid launch into the Philippine market.

Kaia's Plans for Gaming and Blockchain Integration
