The Internet Computer blockchain announced that its Chain-Key Bitcoin ($ckBTC) non-custodial Bitcoin token will soon be connected to the Cosmos ecosystem. This development is the result of a strategic collaboration between the Omnity Network omnichain hub and the Osmosis interchain DEX and DeFi hub.

The Osmosis decentralized exchange boasts $16 million in Bitcoin liquidity, has seen trading volumes reach $35 billion, and is connected to over 100 blockchains. The collaboration with Omnity is expected to enhance liquidity, broaden the functionality of ckBTC, and strengthen the relationship between the Cosmos and Internet Computer (ICP) ecosystems through cross-chain capabilities. It will also ensure top-notch security and integration for ckBTC holders.

The cross-chain capabilities of Omnity are based on Chain Fusion, which allows Internet Computer (ICP) smart contracts to directly sign and submit transactions to other chains. This technology enables the Omnity Network to function as a Bitcoin Asset Hub, effortlessly bridging ckBTC and other Bitcoin assets to different blockchain networks. Thanks to the integration with Osmosis, ckBTC can now be securely transferred across multiple blockchains, cutting down transaction costs, minimizing latency, and boosting security.
