‍Trust Wallet, the world’s leading self-custody Web3 wallet, trusted by over 130 million users, has just launched a new campaign called “Year 2001.” Comparing where Web3 is today with Web1 and Web2 back in 2001, when global internet adoption was just getting started, it reminds us that we’re still early to the crypto and blockchain game. 

The campaign features engaging short videos and the message, “Tell your friends, they’re still early! Web3 is still in the year 2001.” Trust Wallet points out that the number of crypto users today is about the same as the number of internet users in 2001, or around 560 million.

If Web1 was made up of static websites, and Web2 was the era of social media and user-generated content, Web3 is the next evolution of the internet that gives control back to its users. It is a new, decentralized internet powered by blockchain. Just as Web1 and Web2 changed the world, Web3 is about to do the same. And there’s a lot of potential for those who enter the space now.

Sami Waittinen, Head of Marketing at Trust Wallet, says, “The Year 2001 campaign is about empowering users to recognize the immense potential of Web3 and encouraging them to take part in this revolution. We want to demystify the technology and show that there’s still time to be early adopters.”

He explained that the goal of this awareness campaign is to highlight the current state of Web3 and debunk the idea that it's too late to get involved in 2024.

“In reality,” he says, “Web3 is still in its infancy.”

The social education campaign includes five short videos designed for everyone curious about crypto and blockchain, with a special focus on the 18-35 age group. These videos will be shared on Trust Wallet’s TikTok account, with four more videos, including comedic skits and street interviews, rolling out in the next few days.
