Web3 Leader Spotlight Of The Day: Nelson Tung Lumbres
Introducing Nelson Tung Lumbres, the Co-Founder of ICP Hub Philippines, an expert in the Finance and Telecommunications industry that found his way into blockchain technology. His passion and advocacy include educating people about Web3, promoting the mass adoption of blockchain technology, and supporting Philippine DApps (Decentralized Applications), developers and projects to build on the Internet Computer Protocol.
With years of experience in growth within the Finance and Telecommunications industry, Nelson is well-equipped to lead the growth of blockchain technology in our country. Nelson looks to share his experience as a leader in Web3, in hopes to guide and inspire the next generation of Web3 builders.
Can you give us a background of what you do?
Our primary objective is to evangelize, educate, incubate, and accelerate the next wave of builders in the Web3 space. We focus on discovering and supporting promising projects that can be built on the Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) blockchain. Through our upcoming incubation program, we aim to mentor these projects, helping them unlock their full potential. After the incubation phase, we provide them with the resources and networks needed to accelerate their growth and scale globally.
What made you interested in Web3?
I became fascinated with Web3 because it allows us to reimagine the future of technology. The current centralized platforms have limitations, from security to data ownership. Web3 offers decentralized solutions to many of these issues, creating a more transparent and equitable system. I see it as the key to solving infrastructure problems that have long plagued traditional technology.
How is working/building in Web3 different from other industries?
Web3 is an ever-evolving space. Unlike traditional industries, where changes are gradual, the landscape of Web3 is constantly shifting with new developments. You have to stay up-to-date with emerging technologies, protocols, and trends. The rapid pace of innovation requires builders to be adaptable and agile, ready to integrate new ideas into their projects.
What’s your proudest achievement in Web3?
One of my proudest achievements is the success of our iThink Hackathons, such as "Push to the Limits" and "Pump up the Jam." These events fostered innovation and resulted in promising projects that showcase the potential of Filipino developers. We’re committed to continuing this mission of providing free education and mentorship until Filipino talents are recognized globally, not just as users but as builders in the Web3 space.
If there’s something you would like to change in your Web3 journey, what would it be?
Honestly, nothing at the moment. Every experience, whether a challenge or a success, has contributed to our learning and growth. Each step has been crucial in helping us enhance our skills and knowledge in Web3, and it’s all part of the journey.
What’s the biggest problem that you think Web3 can solve?
One of the biggest challenges Web3 can solve is related to traditional banking and payments, including Know Your Customer (KYC) processes. These services can be seamlessly integrated into decentralized platforms, offering more security, speed, and accessibility. The Internet Computer Protocol (ICP) already has the capabilities to address these issues. Now, it's a matter of mainstream adoption, especially by traditional financial systems.
What’s your BTC price prediction in 2030?
