Web3 Leader Spotlight of the day: Roel Resurreccion
Introducing Roel Ressureccion, the Global CEO of KardiaChain, a blockchain company with an aim to become Southeast Asia's First Interoperable Blockchain that enables end-to-end built-in software solutions to supercharge traditional software solutions, or completely replace them. His extensive experience in the tech and operations industry has led him to achieving ambitious heights, leaving a trail of prosperity for those who have worked alongside him. In this article, Roel shares his experience as an innovator in Web3 along with his insights, achievements, and challenges in this industry.
Can you give us a background of what you do?
I am leading KardiaChain as its Global CEO, spearheading the advancement and application of blockchain technology to foster interoperability and digital transformation across Southeast Asia and eventually the globe. We strive to innovate as we explore and experiment with blockchain for use cases across different business sectors such as government, private businesses, and public applications.
What made you interested in Web3?
I have a background in network engineering and operations, where I was able to innovate at leading tech companies, driving my passion for cutting-edge technologies that revolutionize industries. When I learned about blockchain, I began my venture into it as a miner and built a few mining rigs. This hobby eventually drove my interest deeper into the technology, and I discovered that my friends were also into blockchain but were building their own projects. Those friends eventually launched KardiaChain.
How is working/building in Web3 different from other industries?
Working in Web3 is distinct due to its decentralized nature, which challenges traditional business models and requires a new approach to innovation, security, and user engagement. The field's rapid evolution demands continuous learning and adaptation. It reminds me of the early days of the dot-com boom, where everyone was trying to innovate and differentiate.
What’s your proudest achievement in Web3?
My proudest achievement hasn’t been reached yet, but since I must answer the question, it would be volunteering behind the scenes to help KardiaChain get started. I was there with the core technical leads to help them get the business side of things going, up to the IEO and after.
If there’s something you would like to change in your Web3 journey, what would it be?
I think I speak for many here, but navigating the challenges of the regulatory environments is one aspect I would like to see change. We have done our own work to help change the perception around blockchain in Vietnam, as we recently worked with a city to help them create and implement their own blockchain infrastructure. There is a white paper about it, and we have high hopes that other cities aiming to become smart cities will look into blockchain infrastructure to address their use cases.
What’s the biggest problem that you think Web3 can solve?
Web3 has the potential to solve issues related to data sovereignty, privacy, and financial inclusivity, enabling a more transparent and user-centric digital world.
What’s your BTC price prediction for 2030?
Tough one, as there are many variables that can impact the price. Given the volatile nature of cryptocurrencies and the numerous factors influencing their value, such as technological advancements, regulatory changes, and market adoption rates, I will be speculative and say it could be at or below 50k USD before the 2030 bull run commences.
