Yield Guild Games (YGG) Philippines concluded their YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip with a highly successful event at Ayala Malls TriNoma in Quezon City on July 14, 2024. This final stop of the nationwide initiative turned Trinoma into a lively web3 gaming exposition, drawing in a crowd of more than 2,900 people and bringing the total number of Filipinos reached by the Roadtrip to almost 7,000.

The event successfully bridged the gap between web3 enthusiasts and the general public. The event space buzzed with a mix of YGG's loyal followers and curious newcomers, including families exploring together, vibrant cosplayers, and spontaneous shoppers drawn by the excitement. Adding an educational dimension, students from the Sisters of Mary School in Cavite were given priority seating, symbolizing the importance of youth engagement in emerging technologies.

The nationwide YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip had the goal of bringing web3 technology directly to different communities in the Philippines. It provided an opportunity to showcase the potential of web3 gaming to Filipinos and also helped to build relationships within the local web3 community.

Pandemic Pivot: How COVID-19 Sparked the Birth of Yield Guild Games

At the YGG Roadtrip Manila 2024, Gabby Dizon, Co-Founder of Yield Guild Games (YGG) shared the compelling genesis of Yield Guild Games. The story unfolds from his initial encounter with Axie Infinity's founders in 2018, through his NFT collecting phase, to the watershed moment during the 2020 pandemic. As Axie Infinity gained traction in Cabanatuan City, providing a financial lifeline to many homebound individuals, Dizon recognized the potential for a larger play-to-earn ecosystem, thus laying the foundation for YGG.

Further, Gabby presented a nuanced view of the digital landscape. He emphasized the power of online skills in accessing diverse opportunities and boosting productivity. This dual perspective served to motivate the audience while also preparing them for the realities of the worldwide digital economy, stressing the need for continuous adaptation and skill enhancement.

From Show Matches to Tournament Triumph: YGG's Gaming Prowess on Display

The event provided an enthralling opportunity for both experienced YGG members and newcomers to the web3 realm. Attendees were able to try out game demos and watch show matches for popular titles such as Guild of Guardians, Mojo Melee, Sipher Odyssey, and Arena of Faith

A standout moment came with the live demonstration of Parallel, a highly anticipated game in the YGG portfolio. This showcase featured YGG Esports team captain Ian "Disi" Dela Cruz and YGG Pilipinas community leader Munchies, who displayed their gaming prowess to an enthusiastic audience. The demonstration served a dual purpose, not only entertaining the crowd but also building anticipation for YGG's participation in the Parallel Planetfall Invitational tournament scheduled for later that evening. The subsequent victory of YGG Esports star Samuel Sequinox in the tournament solidified YGG's dominance in web3 gaming.

The sponsors of YGG Pilipinas Roadtrip were actively involved in the event, organizing sessions and providing prizes. Jambo Technology distributed JamboPhone units that were ready for web3 gaming, while Coins.ph, a prominent cryptocurrency exchange in the Philippines, offered their branded merchandise. Delabs hosted a Rumble Racing Star competition, where various web3 communities competed, and BreederDAO presented their upcoming Playcore platform and Creatorverse roguelike game.

Key members of the YGG community such as Munchies, Stephy, Spamandrice, Kookoo, YellowPanther, and KaizerGaming88 engaged with participants through meet-and-greets and discussions. The discussions, including the "Building Successful Communities in Web3" panel, highlighted the significance of fostering community and cooperation within the web3 realm, urging involvement in gatherings like the Roadtrip.

Cosplay Extravaganza: Founders and Fans Bring Web3 Characters to Life

The festive atmosphere was heightened by a highly anticipated cosplay competition that offered a prize pool of PHP100,000. Over 100 cosplayers, including Gabby Dizon and Mench Dizon, founders of YGG, donned their best Mario Brothers costumes and portrayed their beloved web3 characters. The competition ended with Guy Singzon's remarkable portrayal of Zhang Fei being declared the winner.

Local sensation Lola Amour provided a thunderous conclusion to the YGG Roadtrip Manila 2024. The band's impending performance drew a surge of fans to the event grounds, offering many their first glimpse into the dynamic realm of web3 gaming.
