The Devcon Scholars Program is being brought back by the Ethereum Foundation for Devcon Southeast Asia (SEA). The main goal of this program is to unite a diverse range of builders from different backgrounds and fields. This effort not only offers scholarships, but also aims to create a community centered on collaborative learning and creation, effectively linking Ethereum with other industries.

Devcon Scholars Program Offers Unprecedented Support for Promising Minds

The highly anticipated Scholars Program, set to commence in August and culminate after Devcon in late November, is poised to provide a transformative experience for its selected participants.

  1. Financial Support: Irrespective of their financial needs, Scholars are guaranteed comprehensive support, including accommodation, flight, visa application, per diem, and/or tickets to Devcon. It is important to note that financial requirements will not impact the selection process, ensuring a level playing field for all applicants.

  2. Pre-Devcon Community & Programming: In addition to financial assistance, the Devcon Scholars Program places a strong emphasis on fostering enduring connections, mentorship, and a platform for enhancing existing skills and knowledge. Through a series of online sessions, Scholars will have the opportunity to interact, learn collaboratively, and prepare for their enriching experience at Devcon.

  3. Devcon Experience: Scholars can look forward to an immersive week at the remarkable Devcon event in Bangkok, Thailand, where they will engage with cutting-edge developments in their field and network with industry leaders.

  4. Post-Devcon Learning Artifact: Following Devcon, each Scholar will be tasked with creating a Learning Artifact — a flexible representation of their acquired knowledge and experiences during the program, allowing them to express their insights in their preferred medium.

Applicant Categories

A total of 100 scholars will be chosen from four different categories:

  • Ethereum Community Leaders: Acknowledging and assisting established and upcoming leaders within local communities related to blockchain.
  • Law Students & Legal Experts: Nurturing a fresh cohort of legally adept individuals with technical proficiency, who are dedicated to upholding Ethereum's principles and open-source projects.
  • Artists & Science Fiction Authors: Uniting artists and writers to creatively showcase Ethereum's values and culture through a range of artistic mediums, culminating in an exhibition at Devcon.
  • Other Creators: Welcoming developers and creators from various fields to push the limits of Ethereum, regardless of their prior knowledge about the platform.

Application Requirements

To be eligible for Devcon, candidates should be attending for the first time and able to commit around three hours per week for three months to attend virtual sessions and finish tasks. The deadline for applications is July 7th, 2024, at 11:59 PM PST.

The initiative promotes submissions from underrepresented communities, particularly those in Southeast Asia, within the Ethereum ecosystem. Further information on the different categories and how to apply can be found on the official blog of the Ethereum Foundation.

Post-Devcon Expectations

Following the conference, every scholar is expected to turn in a Learning Artifact, which is a form of creative representation of their knowledge and experiences, using a medium of their choosing. This is done to guarantee that the acquired knowledge is shared and retained within the community.

The Devcon Scholars Program is a great chance for those who are enthusiastic about Ethereum and blockchain technology to acquire comprehensive understanding, establish connections, and make valuable contributions to the advancement of the ecosystem. This initiative highlights the Ethereum Foundation's dedication to inclusivity and the development of the community, promoting a diverse and cooperative atmosphere.
